Bolliger Team Switzerland wins endurance classic
The Swiss team Bolliger won the eight hour race of the 14th German Speedweek in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Under changeable weather conditions, the Endurance WC team performed well above the remainder of the field and took the victory confidently. Local representatives from TSV Völpke powered by Schubert Motors secured third overall place just before the race finished and as in the previous year reached the podium again.
The race began traditionally with the Le Mans start, which includes the pilots having to walk to their motorbikes to start racing. The Bolliger Team started right at the front and was able to quickly expand on this lead further. During the race however, external conditions were changeable, causing several safety car phases. The rain, at times very heavy, did not threaten the long distance world championship contestants of the Bolliger Team seriously. Perfectly executed pit stops helped, too, when in the end after 271 laps victory was declared unquestionable for Horst Saiger and Roman Stamm. The Austrian/Swiss duo clocked a total of five more laps on their Kawasaki ZX 10 R than runner up Herbert Kaufmann, Julius Ilmberger and Georg Spindler from Ilmberger Carbon/SPS Race with three BMW S 1000 RR at the start.
Three motorbikes of the same model also achieved podium places driven by their pilots from TSV Völpke powered by Schubert Motors. The third place was taken over by Björn Stuppi, Jochen Kaufholt and Daniel Bergau just half an hour before race finish, after being stuck on fourth place for nearly the entire race.
34 of the total 42 teams made it across the eight hour race’s finishing line.
